Set up units and sub-units (box, piece, foot)
Create base units and pack units so one item sells by the box, the piece, the metre or the foot.
- 1
Turn on sub-units
Settings → Business settings → Product → enable sub-units.
- 2
Create base units
Products → Units: piece, metre, foot, kg, sheet.
- 3
Create pack units
Add a unit as a multiple of a base unit, e.g. Box 100 = 100 × piece.
- 4
Attach sub-units to items
On each product, choose which sub-units it may be sold in.
- 5
Price each unit
Set selling prices so the box is priced deliberately, not by the till's maths.
Worked example
Wood screws 3.5 × 40: base unit piece, sub-units Box 200 and Carton (10 boxes). Stock is kept in pieces. A box sale removes 200 pieces; a single screw removes 1.

Common questions
- Can quantities be decimals?
- Yes, for units that allow it, like metres or kilograms.
- Do I need a barcode per unit?
- It helps: label boxes with their own barcode so scanning picks the right unit.
