Multi-location hardware inventory: stores, yards and transfers on one catalogue
Multi-location inventory keeps one catalogue and one customer list across several stores, yards or warehouses while tracking stock separately in each. Hardware Store POS moves stock between them with stock transfers, can set prices and tax per location, and reports per location or for the whole business.

Test rig: transfer stock between two locations
Move items from the yard to the store and watch both counts update, the way a stock transfer does.

!The problem
Why branches drift apart
- 1Two separate systems mean two catalogues, two prices for the same item and two lists of contractors.
- 2Phoning the other branch to ask "do you have it?" wastes the counter's time.
- 3Stock moved by van without a record makes both counts wrong.
- 4Owners need one view of sales and stock across all sites.
4 stepsSet-up sequence
How multi-location & transfers is set up

Add locations
Add each store, yard or warehouse as a business location with its own address, invoice layout and receipt printer.

Share the catalogue
All locations use one product list; choose which items each location sells.

Transfer stock
Create a stock transfer from one location to another; it can be pending, in transit or completed.

Report across sites
Filter reports by location or see the whole business together.
⚠Field notes
Multi-site habits
Treat the yard as a location
Even on one site, separating yard stock makes counts and picking clearer.
Complete transfers on arrival
Mark transfers completed only when the goods are received at the other end.
Lock staff to their site
Permissions per location stop accidental sales from the wrong branch.
Count by location
Run stock counts per location, not across the business at once.

Multi-location & transfers: questions owners ask
- How many locations can I have?
- Counter and Yard cover one location (Yard adds a yard or warehouse). Branches covers up to three, and more can be added at a set price each on the pricing page.
- Do all branches share one product list?
- Yes. One catalogue, with stock and alerts kept separately for each location.
- Can contractors buy at any branch on the same account?
- Yes. Customers are shared across locations, so one trade account and its credit limit work everywhere.
- How do I move stock between locations?
- Create a stock transfer from one location to another with the items and quantities. Stock leaves one location and arrives at the other.
- Can prices differ by branch?
- Yes. Assign a selling-price group as a location's default to price differently there.
- Can staff see only their own branch?
- Yes. User permissions can restrict staff to specific locations.
- Can I see total sales across all branches?
- Yes. Reports can be filtered to one location or show all locations together.
- Can a branch be in another country?
- Each location can have its own tax rates and invoice layout; currency is set per business. Ask on a demo if you run stores in more than one country.
